Developed by Sacresa and constructed by Sorigué’s Acsa Obras e Infraestructuras with installer Cobra, the 25-storey building is the first completed structure in the Porta Diagonal urban development. It officially opened in October 2025 after construction began in March of that year. Designed by architecture firm Batlle i Roig, the tower features vertical gardens on two full facades and has achieved BREEAM 'Excellent' sustainability certification due to its biophilic design and energy efficiency systems, which aim to support occupant health. --- ## Inside the Tower: Flexible Long-Stay Accommodation Rather than traditional hotel rooms or private apartments, Tower One houses 526 rental units operated by Diagonal Suites Living. Of these, 350 are hotel-style rooms and 176 are studios or apartments, offering stays from one night up to nearly a year. The building is marketed as 'next-generation accommodation' for guests seeking more comfort and flexibility than standard hotels. Monthly rates for the 2026–2027 season start at €1,490 for a suite and €2,300 for a superior apartment for stays of up to six months. Discounts apply for bookings longer than six months: the suite drops to €1,310 per month and the apartment to €1,650\. Each unit includes contemporary design elements, with options for kitchenettes and televisions. When approached as prospective clients, staff requested check-in and check-out dates and offered tailored options based on needs. --- ## Part of a Larger Urban Transformation Tower One is part of the wider Porta Diagonal project, which covers the final 90,000 square metres of the Finestrelles sector’s 234,800-square-metre redevelopment. The plan, originally known as Pla Caufec, required a modification to the Metropolitan General Plan (PGM) to increase buildable area nearly eightfold. The project was initially contested by local activists who opposed the urbanisation of natural land at the edge of Collserola Natural Park, citing biodiversity loss and the erosion of a forest-urban transition zone. Legal challenges ended unsuccessfully, and construction proceeded under the approval of the Generalitat. The municipality of Esplugues de Llobregat now promotes the area as a new metropolitan hub, citing economic activity, offices, and urban improvements. Mayor Eduard Sanz has long argued the development brings significant investment and employment opportunities. Future phases of Porta Diagonal will include a second 23-storey tower, a business park, and hundreds of high-standard homes. The broader initiative is linked to the future Campus Clínic health and research campus, whose governance consortium is set to become operational in 2026\. According to the Generalitat, the full campus, including hospital, research, and academic facilities, is expected to open in 2035, with an investment of around €1.7 billion. A new metro station serving the area is also planned for completion that year.
