## Global and Catalan Voices in Music Documentary

The 24th edition of the In-Edit International Music Documentary Film Festival will run from Thursday 29 October to Sunday 8 November at Mooby Aribau Cinemes in Barcelona, screening 70 films that explore music across genres and decades. The festival opens with *Broken English*, a documentary on Marianne Faithfull directed by Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard, featuring contributions from Tilda Swinton and Nick Cave. Among the international highlights are *Bowie: The Final Act*, examining David Bowie’s late career and legacy; *Pulp: What Do You Do For an Encore?*, narrated by Jarvis Cocker; and *40 Years of Fuckin’ Up*, a raw chronicle of Californian punk band NOFX. Other global figures include Sun Ra, explored in *The Magic City: Birmingham According to Sun Ra*, and Earth, Wind & Fire, profiled in *That’s the Weight of the World* by Questlove.

## Catalan Talent Takes Centre Stage

Catalan creators are strongly represented, with around twenty productions from or involving Catalan artists and filmmakers. Carla Simón presents *Flamenco*, a film starring dancer Rocío Molina, while Albert Serra debuts *Seize Moments de ma Vie*, a concert film of Ingrid Caven. Jordi Savall appears in *Tempus Fugit*, and Remei de Ca la Fresca brings her visceral rock to the festival. The programme also includes *Flying Free: Història d’un himne*, a documentary on the Catalan *makina* music scene. A selection of archival and contemporary Catalan music is highlighted in *Els concerts de la Transició*, featuring performances by Raimon, Lluís Llach, and Pi de la Serra.

## In-Edit Lab Fosters Emerging Creators

Beyond screenings, In-Edit Lab offers a free professional forum with masterclasses from CANADA, a leading Catalan production company, and sessions on artificial intelligence in post-production. The third edition of its speed-dating format will host 64 meetings between audiovisual producers and artist representatives to promote new Catalan music documentaries. A short film workshop for creators aged 18 to 25 provides a platform for young talent. The lab aims to strengthen the ecosystem for documentary filmmaking in Catalonia.

## Festival Reach and Accessibility

The festival, described by Barcelona Film Commission as the most relevant international event dedicated to music documentaries, expects over 170 guests and attracts around 35,000 spectators annually. Of the 70 films, 50 are feature-length, 6 are mid-length, and 14 are short films. There are 22 world premieres, 4 European premieres, 25 Spanish premieres, and 13 Catalan premieres, with 12 titles marking directorial debuts. The closing ceremony on Saturday 7 November will announce award winners across five categories: Best International Feature, Best National Feature, Best International Short, Best National Short, and the Apolo Award for Best Music Video. A selection of 15 titles will be available to stream for free on [CaixaForum+](https://www.caixaforumplus.com/?ref=barna.news) from 7 to 22 November, increasing access beyond the theatre screenings.
