## Generalitat monitors new rain threat

Rainfall intensity has decreased across Catalonia on Sunday 18th October 2026 compared to the previous day, but authorities remain on high alert for a new episode of intense precipitation forecast for Monday. President of the Generalitat Salvador Illa confirmed that a new meeting of the Operational Coordination Centre of Catalonia (Cecat) will be held Sunday afternoon to assess the forecast and determine which areas may be affected. The meeting will bring together emergency services, regional police (Mossos d'Esquadra), fire departments and civil protection agencies to coordinate response plans. The Cecat, based at Diputació 355 in Barcelona, serves as the central hub for crisis management during weather emergencies.

## Monday's DANA forecast under review

A new cold drop – known locally as a DANA (Depresión Aislada en Niveles Altos) – named 'Adam' by Meteocat, is expected to bring torrential rains to parts of Catalonia on Monday. The exact geographical scope and intensity of the rainfall remain under evaluation ahead of the Cecat decision. "Tomorrow there is a forecast of intense rainfall in the form of a DANA, a cold drop," Illa stated during a public event in Cervelló. "This afternoon, we will finish calibrating which part of the territory will be affected and to what extent, and we will also issue the appropriate warnings to the population." Until the assessment is complete, the government urges residents to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel in at-risk areas. Official alerts will be issued through the Meteocat service at [en.meteocat.gencat.cat](https://en.meteocat.gencat.cat/?ref=barna.news) and emergency broadcasts.

## Search concludes in Cabrera de Mar incident

During his remarks, Illa expressed concern over the disappearance of a woman in Cabrera de Mar during Saturday’s storm. Emergency services, including the Generalitat Fire Department, Mossos d'Esquadra and Maritime Rescue, conducted an overnight search after the woman was swept away by floodwaters while crossing a stream with her family. The body of the woman, in her 30s, was found Sunday morning near the breakwater of Premià de Mar port, approximately six kilometres from where she disappeared. In Cervelló, Illa said, "We hope to find them as soon as possible," before later learning of the outcome. The local mayor, Òscar Fernández, confirmed the incident occurred after a basketball game at the municipal pavilion. "When it was raining so hard, people were asked not to leave the municipal pavilion. It seems there were people who decided to leave despite the rain," he said. Rainfall in Cabrera de Mar reached 57 litres per square metre in less than an hour. Fernández announced official mourning in both Cabrera de Mar and Malgrat, with a minute of silence to be held on Monday. He urged the public not to underestimate downpours: "A downpour cannot be underestimated and can lead to fatal consequences like those we have witnessed today."

## What this means for you

Residents should monitor updates via the official Meteocat portal and local authorities for potential weather warnings on Monday 19th October. Though Sunday’s rains have eased, the threat of renewed flash flooding remains. The Generalitat advises against crossing streams or travelling in low-lying areas until alerts are lifted. Schools and transport operators may issue adjustments depending on the Cecat’s assessment.
