## Gràcia in the Spotlight for Architecture Month

Barcelona’s designation as World Capital of Architecture 2026 continues into November with Gràcia as the featured district, hosting around 15 activities that highlight its architectural identity and community life. The programme, coordinated by Barcelona City Council, runs throughout the month and invites residents and visitors to explore the area’s historic streets, green spaces, and architectural evolution. The district’s architectural legacy includes iconic works by Antoni Gaudí such as Casa Vicens and Park Güell, alongside examples of modernism, traditional Catalan housing, and contemporary public buildings. The focal point for the month’s events is the Casa de la Vila de Gràcia, located in Plaça de la Vila, which served as the administrative centre of the former independent municipality. The 19th-century building was remodelled between 1905 and 1906 by Francesc Berenguer i Mestres, a frequent collaborator of Gaudí, who added modernist elements including a distinctive blue façade, forged iron balconies, and the Gràcia coat of arms.

## Guided Walks, Exhibitions and Site Visits

Among the key events is a Jane’s Walk, inspired by urbanist Jane Jacobs, encouraging participants to reflect on neighbourhood dynamics. Another route, "Fonts and Aqueducts: Nature and Architecture", explores water-related heritage, while "Close Your Eyes and Listen: Gràcia" offers a sensory experience focusing on the district’s soundscape and urban noise management. A major highlight is the opportunity to visit the ongoing redevelopment of Font del Carbó Gardens. These guided tours, part of the "From the Fence" series, take place on-site but outside the construction perimeter. On Wednesday 18th November from 16:00 to 17:00, attendees will learn about the transformation of the gardens into a community hub, including new spaces for gathering, a community garden, an outdoor auditorium, and improved connections between Antequera and Marianao streets. The project preserves existing vegetation and key stone structures. The tour will be led by Josep Usach, Deputy Technical Director of Infrastructure at BIMSA, and architect Francesc Puig of Estudinao. Accessibility cannot be guaranteed along the entire route.

## Exhibition and Community Engagement

The travelling exhibition "From Blind Walls to Façades. A Legacy for the City" will be on display at the District headquarters throughout November, presenting proposals to convert interior party walls into shared architectural facades that enhance both housing conditions and the urban landscape. A public debate titled "Can a Blind Wall Transform Your Home and Neighborhood?" will accompany the exhibition. Most activities are free, though prior registration is required via the [Barcelona City Council’s Gràcia district website](https://ajuntament.barcelona.cat/gracia/ca/noticies/gracia-protagonista-del-mes-de-novembre-de-la-capital-mundial-de-larquitectura-42558?ref=barna.news). Cineforum sessions are the only events with a fee. Residents and visitors can engage with urban planning through participatory workshops such as "Millorem el barri" (Improving the Neighbourhood) and "Apropant casos d’arquitectura i disseny" (Bringing Architecture and Design Closer), which aim to involve the public in shaping local spaces.
