## Barcelona Neighbourhoods Top National Foreign Resident Rankings

The Gòtic neighbourhood in Barcelona’s Ciutat Vella district has the highest percentage of foreign residents of any neighbourhood in Spain, with 67% of its population registered as foreign nationals in 2025 data published by the National Statistics Institute (INE). Three other neighbourhoods in Ciutat Vella also rank among the top 15 nationally for foreign population share in cities over 250,000 inhabitants. El Raval follows with 52%, Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i la Ribera at 47%, and La Barceloneta at 43%. Six of the 15 neighbourhoods with the highest foreign population percentages are located in Barcelona. Alongside the four in Ciutat Vella, Besòs i el Maresme records 41.7%, and Poble-sec 38.4%.

## Crime Rates Compared Across Municipalities

The same INE Urban Indicators report includes crime data for 2024\. Barcelona ranks fourth among municipalities with over 20,000 inhabitants, recording 103.5 criminal offences per thousand residents. It is surpassed by Salou (120.9), Adeje (126), and El Prat de Llobregat, which leads the ranking with 225 offences per thousand, driven largely by crimes at Barcelona–El Prat Airport. Sant Adrià de Besòs ranks seventh with 97.8 offences per thousand. In contrast, Olesa de Montserrat, another municipality in the metropolitan region, records the lowest rate in the country at 17.6 per thousand.

> These figures reflect demographic and urban dynamics across Spain’s largest cities, with Barcelona standing out for both its international population and urban safety metrics.

### Context and Data Sources

The data comes from the INE’s 2025 Urban Indicators edition, which compiles demographic, economic, and social statistics for urban areas. The foreign population percentages are based on official municipal registers (padrón), and crime rates derive from conviction statistics for 2024\. Barcelona City Council has previously noted a record 26.4% of the city’s total population consists of foreign nationals, a figure consistent with the INE’s neighbourhood-level findings.
