## €1m State Subsidy Approved

The Generalitat has authorised a direct grant of €1 million to the Fundació Julio Muñoz Ramonet to finance the rehabilitation of Torre Avenir in Barcelona. The funding, confirmed on Tuesday 20th October 2026 during the Consell Executiu, will be allocated between 2026 and 2029\. This marks a key step in establishing the building as the future headquarters of the Acadèmia del Cinema Català, under a space-sharing agreement managed by the foundation. The project is part of an institutional collaboration between the Generalitat and Barcelona City Council.

## New Home for Catalan Film

Once renovations are complete, the top floor of Torre Avenir, 131 m², will serve as the 'new home of Catalan cinema'. The space will host the activities of the Acadèmia del Cinema Català, which currently operates from the SGAE headquarters. Rehabilitation works are scheduled to begin in September and are expected to finish in 2027, according to Barcelona mayor Jaume Collboni, who announced the timeline earlier this year. The total project cost is estimated at €2.8 million, jointly funded by the City Council, the Generalitat, and the Fundació Julio Muñoz Ramonet.

> The historic tower will become a fully operational cultural facility to strengthen the cultural outreach of the Muñoz Ramonet heritage complex and promote public-interest cultural activities.

## Boost for Catalan Film Sector

The Acadèmia del Cinema Català represents over 650 film professionals and organises major events such as the Gaudí Awards and the Gaudí cycle, which promote Catalan cinema across Spain. With a permanent, publicly accessible venue, the academy aims to enhance its role in supporting and showcasing Catalan cinematic talent. The move comes as Catalan audiovisual production gains increasing recognition at international film festivals. Institutions involved say the new space will help consolidate and expand this creative ecosystem.
