Isabel Gómez, who headed the anti-capitalist CUP list in Terrassa at the 2007 municipal election, is now supporting Vox, according to reporting by [Diari ARA](https://en.ara.cat/politics/the-former-cup-list-leader-who-now-embraces-vox%5F1%5F5816367.html?ref=barna.news). She did not win a council seat in 2007.

For Terrassa residents, the shift puts a former candidate from the Popular Unity Candidacy, or CUP, alongside Vox in the city’s public [debate on](https://barna.news/collboni-calls-for-debate-on-buying-hist/) immigration. Gómez appeared last Thursday with Vox’s Terrassa spokesperson, Alicia Tomás, at a Town Hall press conference about an alleged assault involving a family of Moroccan origin.

Before the press conference, Gómez gave Tomás a bouquet of flowers. Vox described Gómez’s move as a signing and said there would be more such changes before the 2027 local elections.

> “Some manage to escape your sect. And she is not the only one. In 2027 you will discover that there are more and more of them.”

## Earlier CUP campaign position contrasted with current support

During the 2007 campaign, Gómez argued that Terrassa should be welcoming and respectful, and said it should not tolerate fascist or racist behaviour. She also defended voting rights for migrants who worked and paid taxes in the city.

> “We want to be a welcoming, respectful city, and we will not tolerate fascist or racist behaviour.”

Diari ARA reported that Gómez made her X account private after the newspaper sought comment. Gómez told the newspaper that she was on holiday and did not wish to respond to its request for an interview.

In a later post, she said her ideological shift had begun in 2014 and identified the left’s management of immigration as one factor. The report also said she had reposted far-right accounts and made posts calling for force to be used against people entering Ceuta from Morocco.

## Anti-abortion position pre-dated Vox involvement

Gómez had already taken an anti-abortion position while associated with the CUP. In a 2013 Facebook post, she said it was possible to be left-wing and anti-abortion, describing an embryo as a “defenceless life”.

She later said the text was written by Miguel Delibes in 2008, that she endorsed it completely, and that she had published it in a personal capacity. Gómez said she had stopped being a CUP member in 2010, while maintaining her support for the party at that time.

Diari ARA also reported that Gómez has questioned the scientific consensus on climate change, describing it as “climate fanaticism”.
