# Firefighters Rescue Two Women Near Barcelona on Good Friday

These rescues in Viladecans and Castelldefels were part of 15 mountain operations across Catalonia as good weather encouraged outdoor activities.

## Rescue Operations in Baix Llobregat

The first incident occurred at 10:11 in Viladecans, a municipality in the Baix Llobregat comarca. Firefighters from Sant Climent de Llobregat located a woman with an ankle injury in a wooded area. They then evacuated her to a waiting [Medical Emergency System](https://sem.gencat.cat/?ref=barna.news) (SEM) ambulance. Shortly after, at 10:57, another call reported a woman who had hit her head on a path in the Serra del Llopard, Castelldefels. A fire unit from Gavà quickly located her, facilitating access for a SEM ambulance.

## Surge in Catalan Mountain Rescues

These two rescues contributed to a total of 15 mountain incidents across Catalonia on Friday, 3 April, involving 17 individuals. The Bombers de la Generalitat reported a significant increase in simultaneous rescues due to the influx of people in mountainous areas. Good weather marked the first day of [Semana Santa, or Holy Week](https://vertexaisearch.cloud.google/?ref=barna.news), prompting many residents and visitors to engage in outdoor pursuits. Other rescue locations included Sant Quirze Safaja, Sant Martí Sarroca, and Castellar del Vallès in Barcelona province. Additionally, incidents occurred in Rupit i Pruit, Bagà, Horta de Sant Joan, Alfara de Carles, Montblanc, La Bisbal del Penedès, Arbúcies, Vilallonga de Ter, La Pobla de Segur, and Àger.

## Safety Advice for Outdoor Activities

The Generalitat Firefighters urged the public to reinforce safety and civic responsibility. They advised checking weather forecasts and carefully planning both timings and routes to minimise risks.
