# Fira de Montjuïc flats to be soundproofed for concerts

Future public housing at Fira de Montjuïc will be constructed with enhanced soundproofing to shield residents from the noise of concerts and large-scale events, Barcelona City Council has confirmed. The 550 new homes, part of a wider redevelopment of the Montjuïc trade fair complex, will follow technical guidelines to minimise sound impact from major gatherings such as New Year’s Eve celebrations and the Mercè Pyromusical.

## Design adapted to nightlife

Carmen Zapata, Barcelona’s Night Commissioner, announced the policy during the first Barcelona Nit international forum. She stated that room orientation, facade reinforcements, and insulating materials will all be determined by a forthcoming technical report commissioned by the city council. The goal is to balance cultural activities with residents’ right to rest.

## Noise reduction in surrounding areas

The announcement aligns with broader efforts to manage sound levels in Sants-Montjuïc. Under measures promoted by the district and reported on Info Barcelona, terraces in Jardins de la Mediterrània have already seen earlier closing times to reduce nighttime noise. Additional actions include installing plastic feet on furniture, regulating glass disposal, and increasing cleaning and enforcement presence.
