An elderly man using crutches was violently assaulted and robbed of his chain in [L'Hospitalet de Llobregat](http://www.l-h.cat/?ref=barna.news) on Monday, 20 April, requiring hospitalisation. The incident occurred on Teide Street in the Barcelona metropolitan area.

A group of thieves attacked the man, pulling his chain from his neck. This action caused the victim to fall to the ground, sustaining injuries. Witnesses immediately contacted emergency services upon seeing the assault.

The Sistema d'Emergències Mèdiques (SEM) dispatched an ambulance to the location. Paramedics provided initial medical assistance to the man on Teide Street. They subsequently transported him to a hospital for further assessment of his injuries.

## Police Investigation Underway

The Unitat de Seguretat Ciutadana (USC) of the Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia's police force, arrived at the scene. Officers collected statements from both the victim and witnesses. Police are actively working to identify the perpetrators based on the information gathered. Authorities have not yet made any arrests in connection with this violent robbery.

## Rising Concern Over Vulnerable Victims

Violent robberies are a persistent concern across Catalonia. Criminals frequently target vulnerable individuals. They often seek out elderly residents, who may find it difficult to defend themselves or flee. Tourists also represent common targets. Many tourists choose not to report crimes due to limited holiday time or unfamiliarity with local procedures. These incidents often involve the theft of jewellery or high-value personal items.

## Related Incidents Highlight Risk

This incident follows a similar event in Barcelona city the following day, Tuesday, 21 April. The Guàrdia Urbana de Barcelona arrested a 23-year-old man of Maghrebi origin. He attempted to steal a €45,000 watch from a man window-shopping on Passeig de Gràcia. The suspect tried to evade police by entering the metro at Diagonal station. He then jumped onto the L3 line tracks. Another police patrol apprehended him at Fontana station, at the tunnel's exit.

The Mossos d'Esquadra continue their investigation into the L'Hospitalet robbery. This ongoing effort aims to enhance public safety for all residents, particularly those most at risk.
