Barcelona installed and presented *L'escletxa*, a permanent memorial to people killed in gender-based violence, in El Born on Monday 24 August 2026\. The mirrored crack runs across a building façade at the junction of Carrer de la Pescateria and Carrer d'en Tripó, giving residents and visitors a new public place of remembrance in Ciutat Vella.

The work carries the names of 150 victims, including minors and trans women. It is designed as a crack, or scar, in the wall.

> “Women victims of gender violence, including those from our own city, are often forgotten, often with small stories that have been lived very silently,” said Raquel Gil, Barcelona’s deputy mayor responsible for feminism, at the presentation.

The installation is intended as a permanent space for remembrance, recognition and reparation.

## A façade project developed with feminist groups

Artist collective Ilium Collective designed *L'escletxa* after winning a competition promoted by the Plataforma Unitària Contra les Violències de Gènere. The project was developed with feminist organisations, the Consell de les Dones de Barcelona, Barcelona’s Women’s Council, and Barcelona City Council.

The work is also part of the Ajuntament’s programme to recover party walls, the exposed side walls of buildings. The residents’ community and the Institut Municipal del Paisatge Urbà, the Municipal Institute of Urban Landscape, supported the intervention.

- **Location:** junction of Carrer de la Pescateria and Carrer d'en Tripó, El Born.
- **Names included:** 150 victims of femicide, including minors and trans women.
- **Cost:** €142,500.
- **Official inauguration:** during the week of 25 November, which coincides with international campaigns against gender-based violence.

The façade has been reworked to face the small square, with windows, balconies and a ground-floor entrance. Residents who wish to visit the memorial can find it at the Pescateria and d'en Tripó junction; the inauguration is planned for the week of 25 November.
