The recent study by the Bicycle Club of Catalonia (BACC) in Barcelona shows a decrease in electric scooters on bike lanes, now at 22% compared to 32% three years ago.
Electric bikes have tripled in usage, now representing 42% of total vehicles. Bikes remain dominant on bike lanes, with 77% being traditional bicycles. The study also highlights a gender gap, with only 32% of bike lane users being women. The BACC suggests the need for gender-focused infrastructure improvements. Notably, Sant Martí sees more male cyclists while Eixample has more female cyclists due to better bike lane networks. The study estimates that 6.5% of users are not included in official data, underestimating the true impact of cycling on urban mobility.
