An **electric scooter battery explosion** caused a fire on Friday morning in an occupied flat on **Carrer d’Andrade, 165, in Sant Martí (Barcelona)**, leaving **two people injured**.

The victims, a mother and her young daughter, suffered **minor injuries** and were taken to hospital by emergency services (SEM). One sustained burns to a foot, while the other was treated for smoke inhalation.

The blaze began at around 8:30 a.m. while several scooters were being charged inside the flat. The explosion ignited the living room and two bedrooms, leaving the home **uninhabitable**. The City Council has offered **emergency accommodation** to the occupants.

Neighbours reported hearing a “very loud explosion, like a bomb,” with thick smoke spreading into nearby flats and stairwells.

**Barcelona Fire Brigade** deployed five units to extinguish the blaze, while **SEM** sent three ambulances. The **Urban Guard** also attended, cutting off the street during the operation.

Authorities noted that **fires linked to e-scooters have tripled** in Barcelona between 2021 and 2024, rising from 4 incidents to 14 in 2024.
