Shopkeepers and restaurateurs from Collserola will gather on Saturday 17 October at 11 a.m. in Plaça de Vallvidrera to protest the ongoing closure of the natural park, which has been in place for nearly a year due to African swine fever restrictions.

Participants plan to walk together to Tibidabo at noon, demanding immediate reopening and greater transparency from authorities. The demonstration includes businesses from Sant Cugat, such as Masia Can Jané, which has reported significant losses since access restrictions began in March 2026.

According to a press release from the organisers, the situation has become “unsustainable” for local businesses that rely on autumn visitors. “If the mountain reopens now, we still have a chance to recover. If we wait until January, it may be too late,” they said.

## Demands for Fair Treatment and Support

- An urgent review of restrictions with clear, coherent, and proportionate criteria
- Transparency on authorised activities and the rationale for exceptions
- Direct and continuous dialogue with affected traders, restaurateurs, and residents
- Urgent economic measures for businesses suffering under the restrictions

Organisers highlight what they describe as inconsistent enforcement, noting that the Tibidabo Amusement Park has remained open with special events, and that a major film production starring Russell Crowe was authorised to shoot in the area with a 300-person crew. These exceptions contrast sharply with continued public access bans.

> We don't want to have to wait for aid to survive. We want to be able to work.

Critics argue that planned economic support does not match the urgency of the crisis. Assistance will require a documented turnover drop of more than 30% and is not expected to open for applications until February 2027, deadlines seen as too late for smaller establishments.

The closure, confirmed by the Government of Catalonia to last at least until the end of 2026, aims to reduce the wild boar population and contain the virus. However, residents and business owners say the prolonged restrictions are having a disproportionate impact on livelihoods and daily life.

The protest also seeks to amplify the voices of mountain residents, who have faced months of limited access to walking paths and natural areas they depend on for recreation and well-being.
