## Intensified Checks Underway Citywide

The Guàrdia Urbana has launched an intensive week-long campaign targeting drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs. From Monday 26th October to Sunday 1st November 2026, officers are conducting heightened breathalyser and drug tests at multiple locations across Barcelona. This operation, coordinated by the Catalan Traffic Service and involving both the Guàrdia Urbana and the Mossos d’Esquadra, aims to detect risky driving behaviour and improve road safety. The checks are part of the Road Safety Strategy 2030 and the Urban Mobility Plan, both of which prioritise reducing traffic accidents and working towards zero road fatalities in the long term.

## Alcohol-Related Accidents on the Rise

According to the latest data cited by the city council, accidents involving alcohol have increased over the past year. This trend has prompted the renewed enforcement push.

> The campaign will see inspections ramped up at different points and checks established all around the city to identify as many drivers and riders as possible testing positive and apply the corresponding measures to stop them from circulating.

Drivers found with positive results face immediate removal from circulation and legal penalties under Spanish traffic law.

## What This Means for Residents and Commuters

Motorists should expect randomised testing points throughout the city until Sunday 1st November. The campaign covers all districts, with no advance notice of specific locations or times. The initiative follows standard procedures under municipal and regional traffic safety protocols.
