# Tractor protest Catalonia: Farmers paralyse traffic en route to Barcelona

Significant traffic delays are being reported across the region this Friday as a massive Catalan farmers protest gets underway. Nine separate columns of agricultural vehicles are currently converging on Barcelona, causing widespread disruption to the road network.

## Converging on the capital

Organised by local farmers and livestock breeders, the slow-moving convoys set off from various distinct points across Catalonia early in the morning. Their shared destination is the [Ministry of Agriculture](https://web.gencat.cat/en/ciutadania/serveis/agricultura-ramaderia-pesca-alimentacio?ref=barna.news) in Barcelona.

According to reports, the sheer volume of tractors occupying main arterial roads has effectively paralysed mobility in several areas. Meanwhile, the columns make their steady progress toward the city.

## Planned 24-hour stoppage

The demonstration is not expected to be a brief affair. Once the various columns unite in Barcelona, the protesters intend to carry out a 24-hour stoppage outside the departmental headquarters. Therefore, commuters and residents are advised to expect continued disruption throughout the day as the heavy machinery moves through the region.
