## Capacity to Grow with Demand

Francesc Xavier Vila, Minister of Linguistic Policy for the Generalitat, has confirmed that Catalan language courses offered through the Consorci per a la Normalització Lingüística (CPNL) can expand if demand exceeds expectations. Speaking in a Sunday interview on Rac1, Vila stated the courses can "grow with hiring" should uptake increase beyond the current offer of around 48,400 places. The registration period for CPNL's own Catalan courses opens on Monday, 14 September 2026\. Vila noted that the government has been preparing for rising demand, pointing to 148,000 enrolments in the 2025–2026 academic year as evidence of sustained interest.

## Integration and Social Cohesion

Vila linked language learning to broader social integration, particularly in light of potential migrant regularisation processes. He described Catalan acquisition as "largely an antidote to the growth of xenophobic positions", stressing its role in strengthening social cohesion. The minister also addressed the importance of public service in Catalan, stating businesses have a vested interest in ensuring their employees meet linguistic availability requirements. He added that the government is working to make being served in Catalan "the absolute norm" across Catalonia.

> We are preparing so that everyone can follow the linguistic integration process.

Earlier in 2026, Vila advocated for increased departmental funding and reinforced the idea that learning Catalan should be central to social integration policies, according to reporting from CatalunyaPress.cat.
