Catalan artist Robert Llimós has died at the age of 83, his passing confirmed on Tuesday 27th October 2026 by *La Vanguardia*, which cited information from the artist's circle. Born in Barcelona on 19th October 1943, Llimós was a celebrated figure in contemporary Catalan art, recognised for his distinctive style and deeply personal works.

Llimós was awarded the Premi Nacional d'Arts Plàstiques by the Generalitat de Catalunya in 1994, one of the region's highest cultural honours, acknowledging his significant contribution to visual arts. His work spanned painting and sculpture, employing materials such as bronze, aluminium, wood, and polyester, with techniques including oil, watercolour, pencil sketches, and printmaking.

One of his most renowned sculptures, *Marc*, was created in 1996 for the Atlanta Olympic Games as a tribute to his son, who died the previous year. A replica of the piece was installed in Barcelona’s Olympic Village in 1997 and remains a public landmark.

Llimós was known for his unconventional inspirations. In a 2009 interview with *La Contra*, he described a reported extraterrestrial encounter on a beach in Brazil, after which he said his artistic focus shifted to depicting alien beings. This theme became a defining element of his later work.
