## BNEW 2026 Unveils Expanded Focus

The seventh edition of the Barcelona New Economy Week (BNEW) will take place from 5 to 7 October at DFactory Barcelona, a technology hub run by the Consorcio de la Zona Franca de Barcelona (CZFB). The event is expected to draw around 12,000 attendees and more than 270 speakers. Pere Navarro, executive president of the CZFB, and Blanca Sorigué, the consortium’s general director, presented the programme on Wednesday. This year’s forum introduces five new thematic verticals: artificial intelligence (AI), video games, agro-food, energy, and science. These join the event’s traditional sectors, healthcare, human resources, and aeronautics, to form a total of eight key economic areas.

### Focus on Productive Innovation

Navarro described the forum’s mission as focusing on "productive, not speculative, economy". A full day will be dedicated to AI, reflecting its broad economic impact and the need for deep discussion on its challenges and opportunities. Sorigué highlighted the growing importance of the video game industry in Catalonia, justifying its inclusion as a strategic sector. The organisers also stressed that the agro-food sector represents a vital area of innovation within the new economy.

### Hybrid Format With Hands-On Experience

The BNEW will maintain its hybrid format, offering both in-person and virtual access to content. Over 50 experiential activities will allow attendees to interact directly with emerging technologies. Participants will be able to see humanoid robots, robotic systems capable of performing surgical procedures, and the latest applications of 3D printing. More than 100 emerging companies will showcase their technological innovations during the event. A digital platform will support networking for both physical and remote participants, featuring tools to exchange contacts and schedule meetings. It will also include a virtual assistant, BBot, to answer queries.

> Registration to attend in person is now open on the event's official website.

### DFactory Expansion Confirmed

Navarro confirmed that expansion works at DFactory Barcelona are due to finish by the end of 2026\. The facility will grow from its current 17,000 square metres to 60,000 square metres. The expansion responds to high demand, as all current space is occupied by 54 tech and new-economy firms, with further organisations waiting to join.
