## Historic Concert Marks Dual Milestones

The Bayreuth Festival Orchestra made its debut at the Palau de la Música Catalana on Saturday, 29 August 2026, during its third visit to Barcelona. The concert, held at the UNESCO World Heritage Site, celebrated two major anniversaries: the 150th anniversary of the Bayreuth Festival in Germany and the 40th anniversary of the Peralada Festival in Catalonia. Under the baton of acclaimed conductor Pablo Heras-Casado, the orchestra performed a selection of highlights from Richard Wagner’s \*Der Ring des Nibelungen\*. Soprano Catherine Foster, tenor Klaus Florian Vogt and bass-baritone Nicholas Brownlee delivered key scenes including Wotan’s Farewell, the entrance of the gods into Valhalla, and the funeral march from \*Götterdämmerung\*.

> The modernist venue of the Palau de la Música Catalana is once again the stage of an historical musical milestone.

The performance was jointly organised by the Fundació Orfeó Català-Palau de la Música and the Festival Castell de Peralada, which played a central role in bringing the ensemble to Catalonia.

## Wagnerian Ties to Catalonia

Oriol Aguilà, director of the Peralada Festival, highlighted the long-standing connection between the Wagner family and Catalonia during a press conference. He described the collaboration as "excepcional", noting that while the Wagner family's ties to the region "go way back", this marked the first time the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra had performed at the Palau. The concert formed part of a broader tour commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Bayreuth Festival. Katharina Wagner, artistic director of the Bayreuth Festival, is directly involved in the artistic leadership of the ensemble.
