In Barcelona, volunteers removed 28 kilograms of rubbish and 4,500 cigarette butts from Barceloneta beach during a clean-up organised by [The Beach Centre](http://www.barcelona.cat/ca/que-pots-fer-a-bcn/banys-i-platges/centre-de-la-platja?ref=barna.news), betevé reported.

The clean-up took place on one of the city’s most visited beaches, where litter and cigarette waste are a regular problem. The aim was to improve the condition of the coastline and cut down on the rubbish left behind by beach users.
