# Barcelona’s Bonus Consum vouchers set for autumn return

Barcelona City Council is preparing to relaunch its [Bonus Consum](https://www.barcelona.cat/infobarcelona/en/bonus-consum-vouchers-to-return-in-the-autumn%5F1639040.html?ref=barna.news) scheme this autumn, offering registered users up to three vouchers in each of two stages to spend at participating neighbourhood businesses. Each voucher will cost €10 and have a value of €30, meaning shoppers can use it against an in-person purchase worth at least €30.

For residents, the scheme is intended to reduce the immediate cost of eligible purchases while directing spending to local retailers. The council expects the campaign to reach 60,000 people and nearly 30,000 businesses, including municipal markets for the first time.

## How the staged vouchers will work

The City Council says the programme will limit each person to three vouchers per stage, using a phased system intended to prevent users from accumulating a large number at once. A second stage is planned after Christmas, at the start of 2027.

- Registered users will initially receive one voucher, which must be used within two months.
- Using that first voucher within the first 15 days will allow the user to access a second voucher.
- A third voucher will be available to users who exchange the first two within the required period at businesses in their own neighbourhood.

Purchases must be made at participating local shops and businesses. The council says the staged process will be repeated when the 2027 phase begins.

## Which businesses can take part

Eligible businesses must have annual turnover below €50 million, premises smaller than 800 square metres and no more than 250 employees. More than 40 municipal markets are due to be included.

Restaurants, festival and performance venues, gambling premises, fast-food chains, 24-hour businesses, unstaffed self-service shops, vehicle-rental services, cannabis and vaping retailers, franchises and gift-voucher purchases are excluded, according to the City Council.

Each participating business will be able to exchange up to 1,000 vouchers, worth a maximum of €30,000\. The council has earmarked €4 million for the two-stage campaign and estimates it could generate €12 million of spending in local commerce.
