## Time Change Takes Place Overnight

Barcelona and the rest of peninsular Spain will switch to winter time in the early hours of Sunday 25th October 2026\. At 3:00 AM, clocks will be set back to 2:00 AM, giving residents an extra hour of sleep. The change applies simultaneously across mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands. In the Canary Islands, the adjustment will occur one hour earlier: clocks will move from 1:00 AM back to 12:00 AM. Sunday 25th October will officially last 25 hours due to the repeated hour.

## Automatic Updates on Digital Devices

Most smartphones, computers, and connected devices will adjust automatically, provided the correct time zone is selected. However, residents are advised to manually check analogue clocks, ovens, microwaves, and vehicle dashboards that may not update automatically. Travellers should confirm train, bus, and flight times, as schedules will reflect the new time from Sunday morning onward.

### Impact on Light and Daily Routines

With the switch, mornings will be lighter but evenings will darken earlier. This shift may affect outdoor activities, commuting, and children’s after-school routines. The gradual shortening of daylight will continue until the winter solstice in December.

> "We are proposing to put an end to seasonal clock changes as of next year," said Violeta Bulc, then European Commissioner for Transport, in a 2018 proposal.

## Will This Be the Last Time Change?

The 25th October change is the final one listed in Spain’s five-year calendar published in the Official State Gazette (BOE) under Royal Decree PCM/186/2022, of 11 March. However, this does not mean time changes will end permanently. A 2019 European Parliament proposal to abolish seasonal clock changes has not been adopted due to lack of consensus among EU member states. Until a new regulation is agreed, the twice-yearly adjustment will continue. The European Commission’s 2021/C 149/01 communication confirmed the schedule for 2022–2026, including the 25 October 2026 change.

### Next Change Scheduled for March 2027

Winter time will remain in effect until Sunday 28th March 2027, when clocks will move forward one hour to reinstate summer time. Until then, residents will operate on Central European Time (CET), UTC+1.
