# Barcelona to expand van access to underground car parks

## Delivery vans to use underground parking

Barcelona City Council is preparing a regulatory update to allow delivery vans greater access to underground car parks, aiming to reduce congestion on surface streets caused by goods loading and unloading.

Currently, only space equivalent to 10 parking spots per facility can be used for non-parking purposes under municipal rules. Deputy Mayor for Mobility Laia Bonet, in an interview with betevé, confirmed the council is working to expand this allowance so car parks can better support freight operations.

Bonet described the change as an "impeccable response" to current urban logistics challenges, noting that much of the city’s goods handling still occurs on public roads, contributing to traffic and pollution.

Also on Wednesday 14 October, Bonet welcomed the suspension of a planned partial bus strike by TMB workers, following a preliminary agreement reached in the early hours.

Bonet said final details of the agreement are still being finalised but expressed confidence it would be completed in the coming days. She also dismissed claims that absenteeism at TMB is higher than at other transport operators, stating it is a sector-wide issue linked to the pressures of public service work, especially during the ongoing Rodalies crisis.
