A driverless minibus is being tested in Barcelona this week, travelling a two-kilometre circular route with four stops.
Equipped with 12 cameras and radars, it can navigate traffic, interpret signals, and avoid obstacles. During a half-hour journey, the minibus encountered challenges typical of city driving, such as dealing with a parked car blocking its path. However, it successfully detected pedestrians and adjusted speed for cyclists and scooters. Barcelona residents can ride the minibus for free until Friday, with a capacity of eight passengers. This marks the first real-world test of a driverless bus with passengers in Spain. The success of this trial could pave the way for more autonomous public transport initiatives in the future.
