Applications for Barcelona’s Temporals contemporary art exhibition grants are open until 11th November 2026, with up to nine projects to be selected for the 2027–2028 programme at the city’s civic centres.

Artists and curators living in the metropolitan area of Barcelona can apply individually or as organisations, provided they have a connection with the city. Applications can be submitted through Barcelona City Council’s electronic headquarters or in person, according to a report published by Diari de Catalunya on 6th October.

The Barcelona Institute of Culture, the council’s cultural body, opened the call. Its Cultural Extension Directorate promotes Temporals, which aims to bring contemporary art to neighbourhood venues and support the city’s cultural and artistic sector.

## Who can apply for the 2027–2028 programme

The call has two categories:

- Up to six individual or collective exhibition projects.
- Up to three curatorial projects.

Individual applicants must be over 18\. Legal entities and associations without legal personality can also apply, according to Diari de Catalunya’s report on the call.

The programme seeks artistic actions and experiences that involve residents and engage with the areas around the civic and cultural centres where they are presented.

## Exhibitions in the previous edition

In the [2025–2026 edition](https://www.barcelona.cat/barcelonacultura/en/barcelona-cultura/temporals-2025-2026-lart-contemporani-torna-als-barris%5F1470826?ref=barna.news), a selection committee chose six individual projects and three commissioned projects from 146 entries, Barcelona City Council said. The exhibitions toured civic centres between January 2025 and July 2026.

Participating venues included Can Basté in Nou Barris, Convent de Sant Agustí in Ciutat Vella and La Farinera del Clot in Sant Martí. The council said each exhibition project would visit three participating centres.

The earlier projects addressed subjects including society’s relationship with digital technology, death, multiculturalism and the future of the climate. They also included activities involving community groups, organisations and residents.

Among the selected artists were Albert Gironès, Marc Larré, Arash Fayez and Nathalie Rey. The programme also included a commissioned project by Federica Matelli and an installation by DU-DA.
