Barcelona’s Eixample district has a long list of well-known dining spots, and Bar Mut is one of them. The restaurant on Carrer Pau Claris 192 is the place Robert De Niro kept returning to during his 2011 film shoot in the city.

According to owner Kim Díaz, who has told the story before, De Niro liked the restaurant so much that he went back almost every night. Díaz also said the actor suggested opening a version of Bar Mut in New York. [ARA has previously reported the account](https://en.ara.cat/food/was-close-to-opening-vermouth-bar-in-new-york-with-actor-robert-niro-as-partner%5F128%5F5511905.html?ref=barna.news).

Bar Mut sits next to Avinguda Diagonal in Dreta de l'Eixample, a central part of Barcelona. For readers following the neighbourhood angle, our [Community](https://barna.news/tag/community/) coverage often tracks the people and places shaping daily life in the city.

De Niro was in Barcelona in 2011 to film parts of *Red Lights*, directed by Rodrigo Cortés. The film also starred Sigourney Weaver, Elizabeth Olsen and Cillian Murphy. His stay in the city is what led him to Bar Mut in the first place.

Bar Mut describes itself as a traditional tavern and says it serves seasonal small plates, fresh fish and seafood, along with a wine cellar. The menu includes egg carpaccio, rice dishes, grilled T-bone steak, croquettes, and daily fish and seafood. The restaurant’s [official website](http://www.barmut.com/?ref=barna.news) says it opens daily from 13:00 to 24:00 and takes reservations.

It is not a budget option. OpenTable estimates prices at €31 to €50 per person, while other food portals put the average spend at about €45\.
