Barcelona marked the start of the 50th Festival Grec on Monday, 29 June 2026, with a performance of *L'òpera de tres rals*, directed by Marta Pazos. For people living, working or travelling around Montjuïc, the festival means busier evenings near venues and a full summer programme across the city.

Europa Press reported that Catalan president Salvador Illa, Barcelona mayor Jaume Collboni and Catalan culture minister Sònia Hernández attended the opening night. Barcelona City Council and the official Grec listings confirm the anniversary edition and the opening production.

The Grec is Barcelona's annual summer festival for theatre, dance, music and live performance. The city council says the 2026 edition begins a new stage under director Letícia Martín, with events spread across the city over the coming weeks.

Residents and visitors can check the official festival pages for schedules, venues and ticket details. The city also lists events in the [Guia Barcelona agenda](https://guia.barcelona.cat/es/agenda/detall/grec-26-festival-de-barcelona%5F99400270790.html?ref=barna.news), which is useful for planning ahead.
