## Record-breaking demand for 2027 race

All 37,000 bibs for the Zurich Marató de Barcelona 2027 have been sold, making it the most populous marathon in Spain and breaking its own participation record. The race, scheduled for Sunday 14th March 2027, sold out four and a half months in advance, according to official figures from organisers RPM Sports and Barcelona City Council. This marks the third consecutive year the event has sold out. Participation has steadily increased, from 27,000 runners in 2025 to 32,000 in 2026, and now 37,000 for 2027.

## Spain's largest and Europe's fourth largest

The 37,000 participants surpass the previous national record of 36,000 held by the Valencia Marathon, confirming Barcelona's status as host of the country's most attended marathon. The figure also places it as the fourth largest marathon in Europe, behind only London, Paris, and Berlin.

### Increasingly international field

The event continues to draw a growing number of international runners. Foreign participants make up 65% of the total, with 35% from within Spain. France leads international entries with around 8,000 runners, followed by the United Kingdom with 5,000\. Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands each contribute approximately 1,000 runners. A total of 107 different countries will be represented.

### Demographics and course appeal

Barcelona’s appeal as a destination and recent course modifications have contributed to the event’s rising popularity. The route, known for being fast and flat, passes through iconic landmarks including the Sagrada Família. Male runners will make up 74% of participants, with female participation at 26%, continuing a steady upward trend. The largest age group is 25 to 34 years old, accounting for over 12,000 runners (37% of total entries). Those under 35 represent 47% of all registrations, highlighting strong youth engagement.
