The alert phase had been active since Saturday 3 October, when sustained rainfall triggered the plan due to risks of flooding and drainage overload across the city. According to the Barcelona City Council, the decision to lift the alert was made based on stabilised weather patterns and fewer emergency calls from the public [(Barcelona City Council, 9 October 2026)](https://www.barcelona.cat/infobarcelona/en/storm-alert-deactivated%5F41910.html?ref=barna.news). --- ## Over 2,000 Incidents Handled by Fire Service During the alert period, the Barcelona Fire Service responded to more than 2,000 incidents linked to the heavy rain. These included flooding in homes and basements, fallen trees, landslides, safety checks at municipal facilities, and public assistance requests. The City Police managed nearly 250 cases, primarily involving water accumulation on streets, disruptions to traffic, preventive actions at schools, and facility inspections. Recovery efforts continue, especially in mountain-adjacent neighbourhoods such as Gràcia and Horta-Guinardó, where access was initially limited by landslides and blocked roads. > Today we have been working in areas where we couldn't work in recent days due to the rain, especially in the mountain neighbourhoods. Tomorrow, these teams will accelerate their work even further. , Deputy Mayor Laia Bonet, speaking on betevé’s "bàsics" programme --- ## Cleaning Crews Doubled for Storm Recovery To speed up the city's recovery, the Barcelona City Council began doubling its daily street cleaning workforce on Thursday, 8 October. The reinforcement is part of the ongoing Pla Endreça, which has expanded the city’s average daily cleaning staff to nearly 2,000 in 2026\. Work is prioritised in districts most affected by flooding and landslides. In addition, flood barriers have been installed at 14 nurseries and primary schools identified as vulnerable during the storm. All municipal schools in Barcelona resumed normal operations on Monday, 6 October. Engineers are now reviewing drainage performance, particularly on ring roads where runoff from surrounding hills concentrated and overwhelmed certain points. The data will inform both immediate repairs and long-term infrastructure upgrades. --- *Primary sources:* [*ajuntament.barcelona.cat*](https://ajuntament.barcelona.cat/premsa/2026/10/09/lajuntament-de-barcelona-desactiva-el-pla-dactuacio-demergencia-municipal-per-risc-dinsuficiencia-drenant/?ref=barna.news)*,* [*Barcelona City Council*](https://www.barcelona.cat/infobarcelona/en/storm-alert-deactivated%5F41910.html?ref=barna.news)*,* [*Ajuntament de Barcelona*](https://ajuntament.barcelona.cat/premsa/2026/10/07/lajuntament-de-barcelona-baixa-a-fase-dalerta-el-pla-dactuacio-demergencia-municipal-per-risc-dinsuficiencia-drenant-2/?ref=barna.news)*.
