The announcement was made on Tuesday by Carmen Zapata, the city’s Night Commissioner, during the launch of the Barcelona Night International Forum at the Fundació Joan Miró. This figure, created under the Night Office framework established in early 2025, ensures that acoustic and environmental quality are integrated into urban planning from the outset. It is designed so that new residential buildings account for pre-existing noise levels caused by events such as concerts, the Magic Fountain shows, and trade fairs. The Barcelona Night International Forum brings together public officials from New South Wales, New York, Amsterdam, Paris, and Krakow. It marks the first international summit of its kind hosted by the city and aims to position Barcelona as a leader in night-time governance. The forum supports the city’s broader strategy outlined in the ‘Initiatives for Comprehensive Night Management 2025–2027’, developed with nearly 100 local stakeholders.
