For patients treated at Hospital del Mar and Hospital Clínic Barcelona, the planned work includes personalised anatomical models and surgical guides to support the planning of operations, as well as 3D-made aids for rehabilitation. According to [L'Empordà](https://www.emporda.info/salut/2026/09/18/alianca-unica-europa-crea-barcelona-fabrica-3d-productes-sanitaris-catalunya-134428654.html?ref=barna.news), the CZFB will supply the machinery and premises, while the two hospitals will contribute clinical expertise, engineers and the materials used to make the products. The outlet described the agreement as a unique and pioneering alliance in Europe. --- ## Planned uses range from operations to rehabilitation The partners intend to apply additive manufacturing, commonly known as 3D printing, across several areas of healthcare: - planning operations using tailored anatomical models; - making personalised surgical guides; - developing rehabilitation tools; - supporting professional training and research; and - manufacturing parts, with potential applications for industry. The Catalan health department is seeking to make Catalonia a European reference point for this type of healthcare manufacturing, L'Empordà reported. ## Project is intended to expand beyond the two hospitals CatalunyaPress.cat reported that the partners intend to bring other hospitals into the initiative in future.
