The initiative, with a total budget of €1.5 million, will distribute over 55,000 grants to encourage attendance at live performing arts, music, theatre, dance, and circus, cinema screenings in Catalan, and purchases of books in Catalan from local bookstores. > The Bonus Cultura allows access to live performing arts, cinema in Catalan, and books in Catalan across the city. ## Support for Catalan Language and Targeted Audiences The programme prioritises Catalan-language content, requiring at least 70% of the overall cultural offering to be in Catalan, with a 100% quota for cinema screenings and books. This measure reinforces the city’s commitment to linguistic equity and cultural inclusivity. Priority is given to three groups: people with limited access to culture, especially in areas at risk of digital exclusion such as Trinitat Vella, Besòs i el Maresme, Bon Pastor, la Marina, and Verdum; residents aged 18 to 30, whose cultural engagement tends to be intermittent; and regular cultural attendees seeking to optimise their budgets. ## Digital Platform with Three Recharge Periods The Bonus Cultura operates entirely through a digital wallet integrated with major ticketing platforms and bookshops. Each user receives a pre-loaded €20 balance, which can be used in full or part across multiple transactions and is compatible with other discounts. The balance will expire at the end of each of three distribution waves: - First wave: 4th November 2026 to 10th January 2027 - Second wave: 11th January 2027 to 25th April 2027 - Third wave: 26th April 2027 to 31st July 2027 Users can renew their bonus up to three times a year, once per wave, ensuring ongoing access to cultural activities. --- ## Support Through Civic Centres and Local Commerce Barcelona’s 51 civic centres will play a key role in promoting the scheme, particularly in neighbourhoods with lower cultural participation. They will offer guidance and support to help residents sign up and use the bonus. For book purchases, users can exchange digital vouchers at physical bookstores across the city, enabling local shops to participate without needing complex technology. This strengthens the role of bookshops as cultural hubs. A dedicated communication campaign will run alongside the launch to inform residents about how to apply and use the bonus, ensuring broad accessibility.
