The purpose of this post is to share what is going on in our community and give some update on some of the activities that are taking place and highlight some of the groups that you might not be aware of. The community at the time of writing has over 1850 members, which might be a problem soon as WhatsApp limits the size of a community to 2000\. We are actively reviewing our options on how we can manage this, and always live in naive hope WhatsApp (😐) will make their platform more community friendly. The “[📚 BCN Book Club](https://pocketbarcelona.com/community/book?ref=barna.news)” group has been running a regular monthly meet-up for quite some time where the group members select a book each week and then meet in a book-themed venue to discuss this and all things literary. The book of the month this month is “Raymond Carver: What we talk about when we talk about love” and the next meet-up is on the 8th November, if you are not already a member of this community you can join it [here](https://pocketbarcelona.com/community/book?ref=barna.news). A big shout out to Nijo, Cynthia and Patricia who have been the driving forces in this community and everyone else that attends nd contributes in the group. ![](https://barna.news/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/99-1024x1024.avif) The monthly book club meeting / [📚 BCN Book Club](https://pocketbarcelona.com/community/book?ref=barna.news) Sports events are ramping up and we have a weekly Beach Volleyball 🏐 meet-up most Saturdays which is organised by Daria and usually takes place on or around Bogatell beach – this is organised in the [Meet-Up](https://pocketbarcelona.com/community/meetup?ref=barna.news) community. We also have our second Barcelona English Speakers “big ⚽️ match” which is taking place Saturday (18th October) at 6pm at CEM Bogatell (places are full, but spectators are welcome). Check out the [Play Sports](https://pocketbarcelona.com/community/snow?ref=barna.news) group for this and other event. We are always looking for more events for the community, and if you are interested in organising something, please contact group admins Owen, Brata or Dan with an proposals, and if it turns into an event, you might get invited to the exclusive “Event Organisers” group which is the Barcelona English Speakers inner circle. We have our monthly meet-up on Friday 24th October at the Wild Rover in Gotico from 9pm – its Halloween 🎃 themed fancy dress (optional) and we have limited places due to the size of the venue, so please ensure you are [registered](https://www.meetup.com/barcelona-english-speakers/events/311477096/?ref=barna.news) if you want to attend. If you know of any venues that might be suitable for 50-150 that might be good to host future events, please contact us [here](https://barna.news/contact/), or one of the admins in the groups. Plans are in place already for the November event. ## Group reminders and other channels We take the safety of our members in the group very seriously, and we strive to have a welcoming community where everyone feels safe and included. If you receive any unsolicited messages from any of the members of the community that you do not know – please let the admins know so we can take action 🚫. The main group is now admin approval for new members, however we automatically approve members that have been referred/invited by other members and those that join from other groups in the community. We have launched a Barcelona English News [broadcast channel](https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029Vb6PJDh6WaKjaAcWAX1h?ref=barna.news) on WhatsApp (all content is also shared in the [News Flash](https://pocketbarcelona.com/community/news-flash?ref=barna.news) group) to get all of the news and whats going on in Barcelona straight to your device. We also have a rapidly growing [subreddit](https://www.reddit.com/r/bcnenglishspeakers?ref=barna.news) where you can ask questions or stay update with what is going on, and we now have multiple social media channels – [X](https://x.com/BarnaNews?ref=barna.news) / [TikTok](https://www.tiktok.com/@bes%5Fnews?ref=barna.news) / [YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/@BarcelonaEnglishSpeakers?ref=barna.news) / [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/barna%5Fnews/?ref=barna.news) so please give us a follow.
