For Barcelona residents following the legal aftermath of the referendum, it removes one of the outstanding cases arising from its organisation. According to a court resolution obtained by *ARA*, the case falls within Article 1 of the amnesty law, which covers acts of disobedience connected to the referendum. > “The present case is in an intermediate phase and, consequently, there is no reason not to apply it at this time,” the court said, according to the resolution. --- ## A case opened in 2018 [Spain’s Supreme Court](https://barna.news/supreme-court-ends-eight-catalan-amnesty/) opened the case in 2018, when Rovira left for Switzerland. She was initially accused of rebellion, a charge later reclassified as sedition in 2019 and then reduced to disobedience after changes to the Penal Code, *ARA* reported. In May 2026, the Supreme Court ruled that it did not have jurisdiction to continue the case and transferred it to the Barcelona Court. The Barcelona court has now closed the proceeding under the amnesty law. The ruling concerns the referendum case only. A separate National Court investigation into Tsunami Democràtic, a protest platform, was shelved in July 2024, allowing Rovira to return to Catalonia, according to *ARA*. --- ## ERC calls for pending cases to be resolved ERC welcomed the decision and called for the amnesty law to be applied to all remaining proceedings.
