# Barcelona Council Allocates €10m for Monument Repairs

The Barcelona City Council has launched a tender for a €10 million contract to preserve the city's cultural heritage, with work set to run over the next four years. The funding will support repairs and maintenance on more than 1,500 protected monuments and sculptures scattered throughout the urban landscape, from Park Güell to Les Corts.

According to official information from the council, the contract is divided into four lots covering different types of restoration work. The application period for companies interested in bidding closes on 13 September. This initiative forms part of broader efforts to safeguard Barcelona’s architectural legacy amid wear from weather and urban activity.

## Funding Linked to Broader Cultural Upgrades

The €10 million allocation aligns with other major cultural investments recently announced by the city. Under a joint agreement between the Barcelona City Council and the Government of Catalonia, an additional €100 million will go toward expanding the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (MNAC), including the integration of the Pavelló Victòria Eugènia.

Separately, €10 million has been earmarked for the second phase of renovations at Mercat de les Flors, a performing arts venue in Montjuïc built for the 1929 Universal Expo. That project, scheduled from 2026, includes upgrading the Sala Maria Aurèlia Capmany theatre space.
