The change, which began rolling out on Wednesday at selected Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) stations, marks the final phase in replacing magnetic stripe tickets across the metropolitan network. From now on, passengers purchasing a single ticket at vending machines for metro, tram or rail services will receive it loaded onto a rechargeable T-mobilitat cardboard card. Those without an existing card must pay a one-time €1 fee for the card, which can then be reused for future single tickets or upgraded to integrated passes like the T-casual or T-familiar. --- ## Bank Card Payments Expand for Occasional Users In parallel, contactless bank card and mobile device payments for single bus tickets are being extended across Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) services. The system, already active on lines V3 and 46 since 21 May, allows users to tap their debit or credit card, smartphone or smartwatch on EMV readers when boarding, eliminating the need for cash or pre-purchased tickets. The rollout is expected to cover all of TMB’s regular bus fleet, over 1,000 vehicles, by November 2026\. This will allow occasional users to tap and pay without needing a T-mobilitat card, further streamlining access. While this new option targets infrequent travellers, regular users will still benefit from cost-effective integrated passes like the T-casual. The T-mobilitat system already records nearly two million new registrations and exceeds three million daily validations, according to ATM data. ## Clearer Choices, Smarter Mobility Digitalisation does not remove the need for informed decisions.
