The arrests followed a complaint filed by the victims, a man and a woman, on 5 April. They reported borrowing €2,000 from a group approximately four years ago. Despite repaying the initial sum, the alleged perpetrators arbitrarily inflated the debt, eventually demanding nearly €50,000.

Additionally, the victims faced repeated threats and intimidation to force payment, according to the Mossos d'Esquadra. The group also illegally detained one victim and stole their belongings. The Mossos d'Esquadra's investigation unit in Badalona initiated the police intervention after receiving the detailed complaint.
