An Argentine federal judge has requested the international arrest and extradition of Jordi Pujol Ferrusola, according to reports published on 12 and 13 September. The request concerns an investigation into alleged laundering of funds said to originate from corruption in Spain through companies connected to Rosario’s cargo port.

For readers in Catalonia, the case concerns the eldest son of Jordi Pujol, who was President of the Generalitat, Catalonia’s devolved government, from 1980 to 2003\. It is a separate Argentine investigation involving allegations against Jordi Pujol Ferrusola, rather than a ruling against his father.

El Confidencial and El Español report that Carlos Alberto Vera Barros, a federal judge in Rosario, issued the request. The reports describe the allegation as unproven and say the judge is investigating possible money laundering.

## Port concession at the centre of the investigation

The reports link the case to Rosario Port Services, a company described by El Confidencial as owned by Pujol Ferrusola. The company was a shareholder in TPR, the company that won the 2002 concession to operate a terminal at Puerto Rosario, a major Argentine agricultural-export port.

TPR means Terminal de Puerto Rosario, the operator holding the concession for the cargo terminal. El Español reported that the judge alleges at least €6.2 million was invested in TPR through a network of companies to conceal the money’s origin. El Confidencial described the amount under investigation as US$6.2 million, so the published accounts differ on the currency used.

- The alleged laundering is linked to investments in the Rosario port terminal.
- The reported arrest request was made by Judge Carlos Alberto Vera Barros in Rosario.
- TPR obtained the port-terminal concession in 2002, according to El Confidencial.

## Former Argentine business associate is in prison

The request follows the detention of Gustavo Shanahann, described in the reports as Pujol Ferrusola’s former Argentine business associate and as a former manager of TPR. El Confidencial reported that Shanahann was sentenced in 2024 to seven years in prison for criminal association and is held at Marcos Paz prison in Buenos Aires province.

Reports have also described searches of companies allegedly used to move and integrate funds. Those accounts are part of ongoing reporting on the Argentine investigation and do not establish criminal responsibility for Pujol Ferrusola, who faces an allegation rather than a conviction in this case.

Pujol Ferrusola was photographed arriving at Spain’s Audiencia Nacional, the National Court, to give evidence on 29 January 2026\. The published reports do not state when an Argentine extradition process might begin.
