## Two-Day Forum Begins Monday

On Monday 26th October 2026, the newspaper *Ara* will launch its second 'Enfoquem – El fòrum de les solucions' at the Recinte Modernista de Sant Pau in Barcelona. The event, running through Tuesday 27th October, will examine major global and European challenges under the central question: 'Who will control our future?'. The forum will bring together experts from politics, geopolitics, technology, and science, with a special focus on security, defence, and technological innovation. All sessions aim to foster dialogue around practical solutions to pressing international issues.

## Monday Focus: Security and Geopolitics

On Monday at 6 p.m., *Ara* editor Esther Vera will open the conference with a welcome address. She will then hold a conversation with Albert Dalmau, Minister of the Presidency of the Generalitat, about Catalonia’s role in European security. Former Italian Defence Minister Roberta Pinotti will speak on "the conflicts and wars of the future." Therese Jamaa, Vice President of Strategic Alliances at Openchip, will appear alongside French sociologist Sami Naïr to discuss strategies to prevent future wars. Two panel debates are scheduled for the first day: one on emerging challenges to European security, and another on dual-use technologies, those with both civilian and military applications.

## Tuesday Focus: Science and Sustainability

Tuesday’s programme will shift focus to science and sustainability. At 7 p.m., geneticist Gemma Marfany and science journalist Cristina Sáez will debate the importance of a humanist perspective in scientific progress. Italian botanist and plant neurobiology expert Stefano Mancuso will present his book *El cántico de la Tierra* (Galaxia Gutenberg), exploring how plant life can inform more resilient and sustainable human societies.

> The future also depends on caring for the Earth and living sustainably.

The event will conclude around 8:30 p.m. with a live musical performance by composer, singer, and pianist Belén Bandera. Her set will draw from her album *Bamboo*, inspired by Mancuso’s work.

### Access and Attendance

Admission to the Tuesday evening session is free, though attendees are advised to arrive half an hour in advance. Tickets for the Tuesday event grant access only to that day’s programme and do not cover Monday’s sessions. The full schedule is available via *Ara*'s official event page at [botiga.ara.cat](https://botiga.ara.cat/2596-enfoquem-capsula-dia-2.html?ref=barna.news). The Enfoquem forum is sponsored by Cellnex and the Generalitat de Catalunya.
