The PMEC2035 sets out 61 actions to build a climate-neutral, resilient, and socially just metropolis by 2035, with a focus on protecting vulnerable populations. Measures include energy-saving interventions in 200 municipal facilities to cut consumption by 30% and support for energy communities to help vulnerable households access renewable energy. A key target is for 90% of the metropolitan population to live within a five-minute walk of a climate shelter by 2030. ## Veolia to Supply Water in Eight Municipalities The concession for drinking water supply in Cervelló, Corbera de Llobregat, Molins de Rei, La Palma de Cervelló, Ripollet, Sant Andreu de la Barca, Sant Cugat del Vallès, and Tiana has been definitively awarded to Societat General d’Aigües de Barcelona (SGAB), a subsidiary of Veolia. The 25-year contract, valued at over €1 billion, will serve around 230,000 people. The AMB confirmed that SGAB met all technical and financial solvency requirements after a thorough review, following its initial selection in the tender process. The decision follows a 2020 ruling by the High Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) affirming the AMB’s authority to determine the water service management model. --- ## Waste Fee to Rise in Line with Inflation The metropolitan waste treatment fee (TMTR) will increase by an average of 3.6% in 2027, in line with the Consumer Price Index (CPI). This adjustment is expected to generate €165.9 million in revenue, covering 88% of the annual treatment costs of approximately €235 million. The metropolitan area produces around 1.46 million tonnes of waste each year. To encourage sustainable practices, bonuses will be introduced for residents who participate in separate waste collections and use recycling centres.
