Under Article 68 of Spain’s Organic Law on the Electoral System (LOREG), parties not currently in Congress must collect signatures from at least 0.1% of registered voters in each constituency. Alhora exceeded this requirement, submitting 11,668 signatures in Barcelona, 1,796 in Girona, 1,281 in Tarragona and 641 in Lleida, according to figures confirmed by the party and reported by *ABC*. The party’s campaign, launched under the slogan “Fora Espanya” (Out of Spain), aims to capture voters disillusioned with mainstream pro-independence politics. Party president Jordi Graupera, who leads the Barcelona list, stated: “We are presenting this candidacy to open it up to all the independence supporters who have been left without a vote after years of political decline.” > We are aware that some independents and people who vote for us will do so as a loaned vote for this election. In Lleida, the top candidate is Cristina Casol, a former Junts deputy who reported sexist harassment within her former party. Miquel Bonet, a writer, heads the Tarragona list. --- ## Shift in Independence Vote Landscape The decision by Aliança Catalana and the CUP not to run in the 29 November elections had initially appeared to consolidate the pro-independence vote behind Junts and ERC. However, Alhora’s entry now introduces a new force explicitly focused on independence at a time when both Junts and ERC have downplayed the issue in their national campaigns. ERC’s ongoing alliance with Podemos, a party opposed to unilateral independence and critical of Catalonia’s proposed immigration powers, has further distanced it from hardline separatist rhetoric. Junts, meanwhile, had hoped to avoid a split on its right flank from Aliança Catalana. Alhora’s emergence, however, signals a re-energised base-driven campaign. The party’s candidate lists include members of linguistic rights groups, teachers from Catalan-language schools like La Bressola, veterans of historic independence movements, and activists from Mallorca and Ibiza, according to the party’s official communication portal. ## Next Steps The electoral registration deadline has passed, and all candidate lists are now final. The general election will take place on Sunday 29th November 2026\.
