## Major Cocaine Haul in Nationwide Raids

Five high-end sports cars travelling over 200 km/h were used to transport cocaine from the Costa del Sol to Barcelona by an Albanian criminal organisation, according to the Spanish National Police. The network, which conducted round trips of more than 2,000 kilometres in a single day, has been fully dismantled following a year-long investigation. In coordinated raids on April 10, 2026, officers seized 2,700 kilos of cocaine, 1,434 kilos in Andalusia and 1,351 kilos in Sant Just Desvern, Catalonia. The operation also recovered 800 grams of tusi (a synthetic stimulant), two handguns, four vehicles, and two motorcycles. A total of 15 people have been arrested.

## Family Ties and High-End Vehicles Enabled Smuggling

The group operated with "almost military discipline", relying on close family members to maintain internal trust and resist infiltration. Several suspects managed luxury car dealerships and workshops, allowing them to access numerous high-performance vehicles registered under straw men or leased with temporary plates. These assets supported both drug transport and counter-surveillance tactics. The network also employed individuals from lower socioeconomic backgrounds to hide stash locations, complicating police efforts.

> The aim is not to remove the drugs, but to eliminate criminal organizations.

Antonio Jesús Martínez Duarte, head of the Central Organized Crime Unit (UDYCO), described the probe as "very complex" and emphasised that success came from sustained field and office work targeting entire networks, not just narcotics on the street.

## Strategic Routes and Cross-Border Links

Investigators traced repeated journeys from Huelva to Barcelona, where suspects would arrive, unload packages, and immediately return, often staying only minutes. The route connects key drug entry points in Campo de Gibraltar with proximity to the French border, facilitating onward distribution into Europe. Communications were tightly controlled. Leaders avoided phones, opting instead for rare in-person meetings between Marbella and Barcelona. International cooperation helped secure further arrests abroad via European warrants. Carlos Prieto, Government Delegate in Catalonia, confirmed the region’s role as a transit hub: "We are not going to stop. Those who make drug trafficking their business must know that the Police are working to dismantle the entire network. from logistics to money laundering." The case underscores the Costa del Sol’s growing status as a major trafficking centre, marked by multi-ton seizures and increasingly sophisticated operators.
