The celebration included children's games, live music, a performance of traditional Catalan havaneres, and a communal meal. Stallholders used the event to thank customers and reflect on how the temporary location helped them attract shoppers beyond the Vila de Gràcia neighbourhood. --- ## Move to New Market on 17th November The renovated Mercat de l’Abaceria will officially open on Tuesday 17th November on Travessera de Gràcia, according to Maribel Ampolla, president of the stallholders’ board, who confirmed the date in statements to local media. The opening has been delayed by approximately five years from the original timeline, due to the pandemic and asbestos removal, with the project costing around €38 million. The new market will house 51 stalls, a Consum supermarket on the lower level opening in the third week of November, community spaces, parking for 50 vehicles, and a semi-covered public square of approximately 1,500 m². > We are like a family, and we hope the new customers follow us to the new market. Maribel Ampolla expressed hope that the relationships built during the time on Passeig de Sant Joan would carry over, ensuring continued support at the permanent site. Municipal sources confirmed the relocation will be coordinated with traders to ensure smooth operations. --- ## End of a Temporary Chapter Demolition of the original market structure began in early 2019, with traders relocating to the temporary tent from 2018\. Once the move is complete, the tent on Passeig de Sant Joan will be dismantled. The new facility features a reconstructed iron structure, a ceramic roof with solar panels, and updated layouts for fresh food vendors inside and non-food stalls outside.
