## Threat of mass eviction looms over 50 residents

Up to 50 people, including seven minors, face potential eviction from an occupied residential building at Carrer de Llenguadoc, 74–76 in the Sant Andreu district of Barcelona. The threat stems from a pending court-ordered eviction that has not yet been carried out, awaiting publication in the Official State Gazette (BOE), according to reporting by *ARA* based on primary documentation. The building, known as Bloc Llenguadoc, has housed elderly residents, families with children, and young activists since 2017\. Some occupy out of housing necessity; others do so as part of a political stance on the right to housing. Residents say the property is owned by Reale, a real estate firm linked to an insurance company, which they accuse of removing long-term tenants four years ago to speculate on the building’s value.

## Eviction fears grow amid legal uncertainty

Since 23 June, occupants of the top-floor apartment have faced a precautionary eviction order. Núria, a member of the support group for the flat, said those living there have removed most of their valuable belongings and are anxious about what may happen.

> The people who live here have taken out most of the valuable things they had at home. They are uneasy because they don’t know what will happen.

As of Wednesday 7 October 2026, no further notice of enforcement has been received. Residents hope authorities will delay carrying out any mass eviction. Eight vacant flats in the building are currently occupied by members of the Sant Andreu Housing Union and other housing collectives.

### Pensioner resolute on staying until social housing offered

Pilar Yebenes, a 72-year-old resident who has lived in the building for 11 years, receives only €400 per month in non-contributory pension and cannot afford market rents. She insists she will remain in the Bloc Llenguadoc until officially allocated a social housing unit through Barcelona’s Emergency Housing Table.

> I want social housing. And if not, I’ll keep occupying.

She reiterated her demand for affordable housing, stating she would accept placement anywhere, including the nearby area of La Congrés (La Contxinxina), as long as it is publicly subsidised.

## Context of speculation and resistance

The case reflects wider tensions in Barcelona over housing speculation and the use of vacant properties. The Sant Andreu Housing Union has previously challenged evictions in the same street, citing landlords with multiple empty units. In a separate 2021 incident at number 78 on the same street, police enforced an eviction after failed negotiations, despite social services having submitted evidence of the tenant’s economic vulnerability to the court.
