## Power cuts affect Barcelona and surrounding towns

Around 4,736 customers were without electricity at midday on Wednesday 7 October 2026, down from 5,391 in the early morning, according to Imma Solé, Deputy Director General of Emergency Management at Civil Protection. The majority of affected users are in Barcelona, Badalona, Sant Adrià de Besòs, Begues, and Gavà. Endesa engineers are working to restore supply, supported by 18 deployed generators and nearly 300 workers addressing incidents across the region.

## Floods prompt rescues and road closures

Firefighters carried out 285 services on Tuesday evening, including 45 rescues of people trapped in vehicles or elevators, with no serious injuries reported. Most interventions occurred in Terres de l'Ebre, Tarragona, and the Barcelona area. In Xerta (Baix Ebre), 21 people were rescued from stranded vehicles, primarily on the flooded C-12 road. Other roads cut off due to flooding or landslides included the T-301 in Benifallet, the TV-3422 between Aldover and Tortosa, the A-7 near Mont-roig del Camp, and the C-43 in Benifallet. The A-7 reopened around 19:45 on Tuesday.

> The episode will continue during this night. We ask for caution, especially in areas under rainfall warnings.

This warning was issued by Interior Minister Núria Parlon following an emergency coordination meeting, as torrential rains delivered over 40 litres per square metre in less than half an hour in some southern municipalities.

## Flight disruptions continue at El Prat

Aena reports that around 40 flights, both departures and arrivals, were cancelled at El Prat airport on Wednesday morning, adding to approximately 100 cancellations recorded on Tuesday. The control tower became inoperable due to a technical incident linked to the rain, forcing diversions to other airports. Some passengers remained aboard planes during delays and had to disembark in rainy conditions. Others spent the night at the terminal, including members of school groups whose travel plans have been disrupted since Monday. Rodalies commuter rail services also continue to operate with disruptions.

## Weather outlook: showers easing, temperatures dropping

The Inuncat civil protection plan remains active. Santi Segalà, head of Meteocat’s prediction unit, stated that “strong but not torrential” showers may still occur on Wednesday afternoon across the northern and eastern half of Catalonia.

> We are leaving the intense episode behind, but we’re keeping an eye on this afternoon because it’s not completely over.

Segalà confirmed that residual rainfall could persist into Thursday, followed by a significant drop in temperatures as the system clears. Meanwhile, SEM (Emergency Medical Service) attended 486 calls related to the weather, transporting 79 individuals requiring medical assistance. Rural Agents are assessing environmental impacts, while local authorities carry out street cleaning and infrastructure checks. Imma Solé urged continued public caution, noting that saturated ground and damaged infrastructure could remain unstable even without further heavy rain.
