## Heavy traffic expected this afternoon

Traffic is calm on Catalan roads this morning, but authorities are warning of significant congestion later today as around 260,000 vehicles return to the Barcelona metropolitan area following the Diada long weekend. The busiest period is forecast between 5:00 PM and 10:00 PM, particularly on routes from the Pyrenees, Costa Brava and Costa Daurada. The Servei Català de Trànsit (SCT) has maintained a special mobility operation until midnight, monitoring road conditions via CIVICAT, mobile units and aerial surveillance. Drivers are urged to check real-time conditions before travelling and consider alternative times or routes to avoid delays.

## AP-7 and C-32 among key corridors under watch

The AP-7 is highlighted as one of the most critical routes, with potential bottlenecks expected near Sant Celoni, Llinars del Vallès, La Roca del Vallès, Vilafranca del Penedès, Sant Sadurní d’Anoia and Martorell in the direction of Barcelona. The C-32, C-33, C-58 and C-65 are also anticipated to see high volumes. Special traffic controls have been deployed, with 1,620 Mossos d'Esquadra officers on duty today. During the weekend, 1,102 roadside checks were scheduled across major and secondary roads, focusing on mountain, coastal and metropolitan zones.

> The SCT recommends drivers plan their journey, maintain attention, respect speed limits and adjust driving to road conditions.

Earlier in the weekend, the exodus saw heavy flows on the C-16 in Berguedà towards Cerdanya. A reversal is expected this afternoon as holidaymakers head back.

## Four fatalities reported since start of long weekend

Four people have died in traffic accidents on Catalan roads since Thursday evening, according to SCT data. The first fatality occurred on Thursday night in Altafulla (Tarragonès), where a female driver died on the N-340\. On Friday, two motorcyclists lost their lives: one in a head-on collision on the N-260 in Ribera d’Urgellet (Alt Urgell), and another on the C-59 near Caldes de Montbui (Vallès Oriental). The most recent death took place on Saturday afternoon in Torrelles de Llobregat (Baix Llobregat), where a woman died following an accident on the BV-2005.

- Thursday: fatal crash on N-340 in Altafulla
- Friday: motorcyclist deaths on N-260 and C-59
- Saturday: woman killed on BV-2005 in Torrelles de Llobregat

These incidents underscore the risks during peak travel periods, as reinforced by warnings from the Generalitat to exercise caution.
